PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT

Installing a programmable thermostat and scheduling your homes heating cycles is an easy way to lower your energy consumption throughout the year. Lowering the heat during times when you are away, such as during the work week, or when you are asleep can lower the cost of your energy bill. According to Energy.gov “you can save as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling by simply turning your thermostat back 7°-10°F for 8 hours a day from its normal setting.

There is another type of programmable thermostat, called a smart thermostat, such as the one made by Nest, that can be installed if your schedule is too irregular or want to be able to control the temperatures more granularly. The thermostat is accessible through an app on your smart phone or tablet, anywhere you have an internet connection. These thermostats also have the ability to learn your heating patterns and set a schedule for you.

When strategically used, programmable thermostats can have a significant impact of your yearly energy bill and save you money.
